On their recent safari with Wild Wonderful World, travelers Julie & Jess were able to help install the nest box they donated to the APNR Ground Hornbill Project. These nests have been designed based on years of experience with installing artificial nests in suitable territories for Southern Ground Hornbills. By doing this, the APNR Ground Hornbill Research Project has succeeded in bringing back a stable and thriving population of Ground Hornbill families on the western boundary of the Kruger National Park. Watch a time lapse of the nest install on our instagram.
Southern Ground Hornbills breed from September to December, and we've received an update from the team that the resident Ground Hornbill family has started lining the nest with leaves, so we hope they will lay eggs this season.
