Snared Leopard rescue mission

December 2023
The dark and rainy circumstances made the mission a lot harder than expected, but the team came right in the end!

Wild Wonderful World contributed to the veterinary fees to save a male leopard from a snare around his neck on Manyeleti. Despite the rain, mud and spotted hyenas trying their level best to stop the team! The darting was tricky, as the leopard had retreated into a tree and slipped off the branches into some thick bush underneath, with his head down and butt up in the air. A lot of courage was needed to reposition the leopard so he could breathe while still being a little awake! The snare was pretty badly infected and smelly but the animal was in good condition otherwise, despite his lower jaw area being very swollen from the fluid build-up. Nevertheless, prognosis is good for a full recovery. Thanks to our snare rescue partners and logistical assistance on the ground from the Sabi Sands team!
