Whilst on a mission to bait and collar predators for research purposes, on a reserve where poaching and snaring are rife, the night vision scope that Wild Wonderful World donated to Wildscapes Veterinary Services saved the day (or night) once again. Because of the skittish nature of many of the wildife on the reserve, the team didn't manage to collar any animals. However, one lioness with a snare around her neck responded to the call up and bait set out by the research team.
With the help of the night vision scope, the wildlife vet was able to accurately dart the lioness with a tranquilliser drug, so that they could safely remove the snare from her neck! We extend our thanks to our donor for funding this scope, which has once again proven to save lives.
The photos below show screenshots of footage take through the scope, showing the lioness falling asleep after being darted with a sedative. Last photo: the team removing the snare from the sleeping lioness, before waking her up.
